Elina defeated the Czech Karolina Pliskova in the second tour of the White group: 6-3 2-6 6-3.

Elina managed to save eight break-points in the opening set, six of which were in the third game. She also managed to convert her only break-point opportunity into a won point in the sixth game. It was enough for her to seal the victory in the opening set. Elina did not have a single break-point opportunity in the second set and also lost the first service game in the entire match.

Elina won an early break-point at the beginning of the decisive set, then another one and grabbed a 4-0 lead. Pliskova tried to do her best and fought back one of the break-points making the score 5-2. But Elina won another break-point in the ninth game and sealed her second victory at WTA Finals.

The overall statistics of the match shows that Elina scored 29 winners, made 18 unforced errors, served 8 aces and made 2 double-faults. The Czech scored 33 winners, made 28 unforced errors, served 6 aces and made 1 double-fault. The match had lasted for an hour and fifty-four minutes.

Elina’s opponent in the third tour is the reigning champion of WTA Finals – Caroline Wozniacki from Denmark. Last year Wozniacki got her first victory over Elina at WTA Finals in Singapore whereas Elina had won four previous matches between them.
