Elina lost her semi-final clash to the World No. 3 Sloane Stephens: 3-6 3-6.  

The American played better at the beginning of the match and won four games in a row. Elina then managed to win two service games and fight back a break-point but did not converted two break-point opportunities in the ninth game and let Stephens secure the victory.  

In the second set Stephens also grabbed the lead after winning the break-point in the fourth game. Then she also secured her own serve saving three more break-point opportunities. Elina fight back the lost service in the seventh game, but the American won another break-point and sealed her victory in the following ninth game. Stephens now leads 2-1 in their head-to-head record with Elina.  

“This week appeared to have quite a lot of positive moments for me. I actually had a tough draw since the opening match and I managed to defeat some good players this week. The tournament has shown that I am wired the right way and I feel much better”, said Elina after the match.  

Elina’s next stop is a Premier 5 tournament in Cincinnati.
