Elina’s opponent in the second round of the WTA Premier tournament in Stuttgart was the 18-year old Marketa Vondrousova from the Czech Republic. Having lost the opening set 2-6, Elina confidently took the second 6-1 and was leading 3-2 in the decider. At that very moment the Czech had to retire due to the right hip injury.
“It is always difficult to play against a slightly injured opponent and clay court does not help minimise the influence of such injuries. I hope that she will get well soon, - said Svitolina after the match. – Vondrousova played really well in the first set as she has already got accustomed to clay after a couple of matches here and another tournament earlier this month. I was trying to show my best tennis and it seems that sometimes it was beyond my power. I continue my trainings and I hope that I would be completely fit for the next match.”

Elina has reached the quarterfinal of the WTA tournament for the fifth time in this season and her next opponent is the World No. 7 Caroline Garcia from France. Last year the players met twice and the French had two hard victories. As for Elina, she managed to defeat Garcia in their first match. Moreover, all the three matches took place on hard courts.
