Elina lost to Jelena Ostapenko in the grinding match which had lasted for almost two hours: 6-7(3) 6-7(5). 

Elina was 3-5 down in the opening set but managed to win three games in a row and took the lead. However, Ostapenko secured her serve in the twelfth game and the winner of the set was decided at the first tie-break. Eventually, Ostapenko won four points in a row after the 3-3 score and took the opening set. 

The same fair contest was happening in the second set. Elina was serving for the set having a 6-5 lead, but failed to secure her serve and again the winner was to be decided at the tie-break. Ostapenko was leading 6-2 but Elina managed to save three match-points. However, the Latvian converted the last opportunity and won the whole match. 

Elina begins the preparations for the clay season. Her schedule includes the tournaments in Stuttgart, Madrid, Rome and the second Grand Slam tournament of the year – Rolland Garros.
