The fourth-round match between Elina and the Czech Denisa Allertova lasted only 57 minutes and resulted in a confident victory of the Ukrainian: 6-3 6-0. Elina served seven aces, made two double-faults and won six games on her opponent’s serve. Moreover, Elina is the first Ukrainian player who managed to reach the singles quarterfinal of the Australian Open.

“It was a great match. I had the great start in Brisbane and winning that tournament gave me a lot of confidence. And thanks to all the spectators for staying that late. I don’t remember now but I think that it’s the latest I have been on court for a match”, said Elina during her on-court interview.

Elina’s next opponent on the way to the semi-final is the Belgian Elise Mertens, World No. 37. Mertens, just like Elina, still has not lost a single match this year having a winning streak of nine matches. In addition to this, she also claimed the title at WTA tournament in Hobart prior to the Grand Slam tournament in Melbourne.

Svitolina and Mertens have already played against each other in the final of the WTA tournament in Istanbul and Elina managed to defeat the Belgian last year.
