After an hour and forty minutes Elina Svitolina defeated the defending champion Karolina Pliskova from the Czech Republic in the semi-final of Brisbane International: 7-5 7-5.

The start of the match was quite hard for Elina as she lost four games in a row but then she managed to recover and even the score up. Pliskova won another game on her service and then Elina took three games in a row securing the victory in the first set.

Elina began the second set with a break and she had been totally controlling the match up to 5-2 score. That very moment the Czech made a break and won the following two games. She also managed to save the match-point. Nonetheless, Elina showed true confidence in the next game on her opponent’s serve and then secured the victory in the following game.

Elina’s last hurdle on the way to the title is the Belorussian Aliaksandra Sasnovich, World No. 88 who entered the main draw through the qualification. It will be the first match between the players. Furthermore, Elina restores her fourth position in the new WTA ranking (which will be updated this Monday) irrespective of the final.
