Having defeated the British Johanna Konta in the quarterfinal, Elina Svitolina advanced to the semis of the Premier tournament in Brisbane. Konta was not able to finish the match and had to retire because of the hip injury in the third set: 6-1 6-7(6) 2-3.

The match had lasted for two hours and thirteen minutes. Elina served four aces, avoided any double faults and did not manage to win either of five break-points on her opponent’s serve.

"It’s the worst thing that can happen to a player, especially when it happens during a match. Hopefully Jo will recover quickly and we will see her back on court soon. She played a really good match today and you can see she’s really playing well. I had to be really focused on each point in the second set. I told myself to fight until the last ball and wait for my chances," said Elina during the on-court interview.

Elina is now waiting for the winner of another quarterfinal between Karolina Pliskova and Kaia Kanepi to meet her in the semis.
