In her second match in Singapore Elina Svitolina lost to Caroline Garcia of France: 7-6(7), 3-6, 5-7. In 2 hours and 44 minutes of intense battle, Elina hit five aces to seven double faults and converted five out of eleven breakpoints on her opponent's serve. In the deciding set Elina failed to serve out the match at 5-3 and lost the next three games.

"I don't want to go into the details, maybe one point decided the outcome, but I missed my chances and now I can't change that, I can't go back in time and do something differently. It's terrible really. If I could find the word to describe my feelings during the match, I would have told you", Elina told reporters after the match.

"I felt good at practice, I trained well, there could be small problems physically, but when I'm already playing at the tournament, I try not to think about my fitness. When I finish the competition, then I will have questions to myself and the team what I did wrong. My matches in Singapore have gone terrible".

In the third round-robin match on Friday Elina will face World No. 1 Simona Halep. Elina will reach the semifinals only with a straight-set win against the Romanian and a victory for Caroline Wozniacki over Caroline Garcia.
