Due to the vagaries of the weather, Elina Svitolina had to play two matches on the centre court of the Toronto's tournament on Saturday. First, she had to finish the quarterfinal duel against the World No. 4 Garbine Muguruza, which was stopped after the first set (6-4 for the Spanish player) on Friday due to rain.

After the game was resumed both players stayed aggressive on the return and exchanged breaks. In the second set Elina was always in the lead with two games, but Muguruza managed to level the set in the eighth game. Nevertheless, in the next two games Elina lost only one point to her opponent to force a decider.

n the opening four games of the third set players exchanged breaks again. Afterwards Elina managed to hold her serve and for the first time to take the lead. After that, Muguruza won only one of the next four games, meanwhile Elina lost just one point on her serve before the match was finished: 4-6 6-4 6-3. With a fourth win over Garbine Muguruza, Elina moved into the semifinal in Toronto.

Six hours later after her victory over Muguruza, Elina stepped on the centre court of the Rogers Cup once again for her semifinal clash with World No. 2 Simona Halep of Romania. This meeting went under Elina's full control, as she gave her opponent only one game in each set. 6-1 6-1: Elina Svitolina takes a convincing revenge for her quarterfinal defeat at Roland Garros and for the fifth time this season she will play in the WTA final.

"Mentally, it was a tough match for me because I had to go on the central court for the second time today," Elina said after defeating Halep. "Physically, it was also difficult, because Halep got to a lot of balls, I tried to focus on my game and I'm very happy now and pleased with my performance. Now I want to enjoy this moment. How will I recover for the final? My team is here with me, so we will do our best for me to be ready for the final match. It's amazing what a day it has been for me."
