In the fourth round of the French Open Elina Svitolina survived in a tough battle against Petra Martić of Croatia.
She needed three sets and two hours to claim a 4-6 6-3 7-5 victory. After losing the opener, Elina managed to find her game in the second set to take a 4-2 lead. Players exchanged breaks once again and Elina confidently served out the set afterwards. Before the beginning of the deciding set Elina, who was struggling with a lower left back pain, asked for a physio. After a steady start from both sides, the Croatian took an advantage with two love games from 3-2 and was close to match points as Elina was 0-30 down at 2-5. However, Elina was able to make an epic turnaround and won the next five games, losing only five points.
- Martic played amazing at the beginning of the match, and I tried to find my way to win, - Elina admitted in an interview to Fabrice Santoro. - I was glad to make a comeback in the second set, thanks to the crowd, you encouraged me so much and gave me energy. In the third set I decided to give everything I had and stay strong mentally, even though I was bothered by the injury. I hope I will recover for the quarterfinals. And, of course, right now I just want to enjoy this victory, because in the end it was very tense. Once again, thank you all for your support.
