In a rain-delayed third round match of the French Open, which was postponed yesterday, Elina defeated Poland's Magda Linette in straight sets: 6-4 7-5.

Elina made one break in each set, saving all four breakpoints, which the Polish player had earned. The clash lasted for one hour and a half.

"Roland Garros has always been special for me," Svitolina, who could not play on Saturday because of rain, said courtside. "I'm very happy that I could win three matches here and hopefully I will keep it going. I was trained to stay focused and I'm happy I could finish it early".

Elina reached the R16 of Roland Garros for the third consecutive year. Last season she lost to Serena Williams at this stage, and in 2015 advanced to the quarterfinals, beating France's Alize Cornet. Now for the spot in a top-eight of the French Open, Elina will face Petra Martić, who reached the main draw via qualification.
