In the first round of the French Open Elina defeated Yaroslava Shvedova of Kazakhstan in 1 hour and 16 minutes: 6-4 6-3. Shvedova had a better start of the match and took an early lead 3-1 with a break.
However, Elina was able to quickly level up the set and even move forward, winning three consecutive games. In the tenth game, Elina managed to make another break and clinched the first set. The only converted breakpoint in the eighth game for Elina decided the outcome of this match. Elina saved two breakpoints when she was serving for her first win in Paris and finished the match on her second matchpoint.
