It took just over an hour for Elina to close out the semifinal match at the WTA tournament in Istanbul. The top seed reached the final with a 6-2 6-3 win over Jana Cepelova, scoring 3 aces, 17 winners and 6 breaks. Chepelova, in turn, managed to convert two out of five breakpoints.
“I was a bit nervous,” Svitolina said during her post-match press conference. “You can get very nervous in semifinals because you are so close to playing the final, so close to getting the title.
In the final Elina will face 6th seed Elise Mertens of Belgium, currently ranked no. 65 in the world. It will be the first match between the pair.
“It’s the last match, so I’m going to fight for everything and hopefully everything will go smoothly”, Elina said.
For the third time this year Elina will compete for the title. Earlier this season she has won two trophies: in Taipei (WTA International) and in Dubai (WTA Premier 5).
