In the Istanbul Cup quarterfinal Elina Svitolina clinched a 6-4 6-4 win with a confident performance against 5th seed Sorana Cirstea of Romania.

Elina finished the match with two aces, 14 winners, made four breaks (one in the first set and three - in the second), but lost two service games.

“A win is a win, and it was a good match,” she said in her post-match press conference. “She’s the kind of player where you don’t know what to expect. She’s very aggressive, and plays good angles. I needed to be focused almost all the time.”

For the fourth time this year Elina will compete for the spot in the WTA final. At the start of the season in Brisbane she lost to Karolina Pliskova in the semis, defeated Mandy Minella in Taipei and Angelique Kerber - in Dubai. In the semifinal in Istanbul she will face Jana Cepelova (WTA 97) of Slovakia. Elina leads 3-1 in their head-to-head.
