Elina advanced to the second round of the French Open
In the first round Elina confidently defeated the winner of the qualification Sorana Cirstea of Romania: 6-1 6-3.
Elina made five breaks and lost only one game on her serve. The only nervous moment in the match happened in the first set at 4-love, when Elina fell badly and was forced to ask for a medical timeout. Nevertheless, this unfortunate incident has not prevented her from finishing the match in her favor.
"I started very well and my oppenent, I guess, was a little bit surprised by that", - said Elena after the match. "I did not expect to see any shots from side to side from her, besides, she made a lot of errors. I changed the pace, length and height, worked great with the rhythm, and then she did not know what to do. In the second set we saw sort of a comeback from Sorana, but I think that the score and the match was still very much under my control. "
In the second round Elina will play against Taylor Townsend (in 2012 she won the Australian Open in juniors). 20-year-old American (No.172 in WTA Rankings) got a "wild card" in Paris. It will be the first meeting between the pair.
"Townsend feels the court well and plays the angles," - Elina commented on her next opponent. "She's left-handed, using a lot of crosscourt shots. I'll have to focus on the ball. She also moves very well. I need to be ready for long rallies and dropshots too."
